The “Afrobeat” musical genre was created in Nigeria in the late 1960’s and blends traditional African rhythms with funk and jazz. Join us for an afternoon of “afrobeat awareness” as we explore this music and the legacy of Nigerian artist and political activist Fela Kuti – afrobeat’s originator and chief proponent.

Featuring 10 piece band “This Way Orkestra” playing two sets of afrobeat (along with some ska and reggae) along with a screening of the 2014 documentary “Finding Fela” from Academy Award winning director Alex Gibney which charts the life of Fela Kuti alongside the production of the Tony award winning broadway musical “FELA!”.
